Weekend bliss

Recently we had a trip to the city gardens

We walked, rode and scootered across the foot bridge over the river

to the gardens

We watched ducks being fed and water dragons lazing in the Autumn sun

We pondered mirrored sculptures

And were amazed at how green and nurturing this little sanctuary is in the middle of the city

Pincushion Swap

This my mushroom pincushion for this months sewing challenge in my Facebook sewing group.

I love the tiny fairy door and glittery purple felt, there are tiny flowers and vines growing up the sides too.

All handsewn and stuffed firmly with wool. I got the pattern from The little house by the sea , and although we used the same pattern mine looks very different to hers! I can't wait to make more and next time I'll be using the sewing machine to do the seams! It might not take half a day then, I'm so slow at handstitching anything!

The smallest mermaid

Here is gorgeous Jory by Veelana at Veelana's Design wearing his shiny blue mermaid fins made by me :-) He has a tiny little body with jointed arms, super soft wisps of hair and a cute pixie like face. He is much more adorable in real life. When my Amber saw him she squealed in delight. So the first thing I made him were some mermaid fins, cos we are very much in love with mermaids in our house. I love how they turned out too, especially since in the past I have found sewing satin pretty challenging. Now I'm dreaming of creating mermaid fins in colours of the rainbow :-)

The Fete Finale!

After Many months of waiting, planning, procrastinating and creating the day of the school fete finally arrived! We set up our stall in the most perfect spot under some shady trees........there was jewellery, hairclips, gorgeous crochet baby beanies and blankets

The gorgeous Isabelle womanned the stall all day

Funky bunting, fairy skirts and curtains floated between trees

And there was cake........so much delicious cake!

Crafty Mama: Free Bow tutorial part 1

Ive been making these cute rainbow ribbon bow hairclips for the upcoming school fete. Theyre so easy to make that my 6yr old made a couple as well.

To start with you need 2 different ribbons. I used one a thickness of 2.5cm, and the thinner one is 1cm wide. It works best if your smaller ribbon is less than half the width of the wider ribbon

You also need craft glue (most work) and snap clips. I used 5cm long ones to suit the width of the ribbon I'm using.............

First cut the larger ribbon into 14cm long strips, I make several clips at the one time............

Next fold one end into the centre of the ribbon...........................................Go to tutorial part 2

Fold over the other end of the ribbon so that it overlaps the first end as above






Pinch together the outsides of the ribbon with your fingers..........

Put your needle and thread through the pinched area, wrap the thread around the pinched area and sew several times....................

And it should look like above...................trim the thread close to the ribbon. It doesn't matter if the sewing is a bit messy as it will be covered by the smaller ribbon, just so long as it holds the bow together..................

Now that your bow is sewn it should look something like this above...........Next run a line of glue along the small piece of ribbon and leave to set for 60 seconds...........

After the 60 seconds place the bow in the centre of the gluey ribbon and leave for another 60 seconds. This helps the glue set and stops the ribbon from slipping so much. Then wrap the ribbon around the bow one side at a time and make sure the end is stuck down. Hold in place for at least 60 seconds. You can use a peg!

Your bow should now look like this above, congratulations!

Next is the messy bit! Put a large dot of glue on the end of the hairclip and on the part of the bow you will be sticking it to. Leave to sit for 60 seconds. Place bow on top of hairclip and press firmly and leave to dry.

The end result! One cute clip!
